Best Destinations for Exploring the Great Outdoors in Canada

The great outdoors is calling you. No matter what your outdoor interests are, Canada has something for everyone. Whether it's hiking in the mountains of British Columbia or canoeing on a lake in Ontario, Canada has some amazing natural attractions that offer spectacular scenery and fun activities for all ages. Here is a list of our top five favorite places in Canada to explore the great outdoors:

1. Nova Scotia

If you are looking for breathtaking views, Nova Scotia is your next destination. The province has some of the most scenic trails in Eastern Canada. Here are a few of the best hikes from all over Nova Scotia:

  • The Bay of Fundy Coastal Hiking Trail - This trail follows along the coastline from Lubec Point in Maine to Cape Charles on Virginia's Chesapeake Bay. It is one of the longest continuous coastal hikes in North America and offers exceptional views of whales, seals and other wildlife along its length.

  • Cabot Trail - This loop trail provides spectacular scenery as it climbs through mountain passes and crosses high plateaus before descending down into valleys filled with farms and small towns filled with friendly people eager to welcome visitors into their communities.

  • Cape Breton Highlands National Park - A UNESCO World Heritage Site that features hiking trails through forests or past lakes set against rugged peaks that rise almost vertically above them (over 2,500 meters). At night you can see stars like nowhere else on Earth!

2. New Brunswick

In New Brunswick, you can expect to see the Bay of Fundy, which is home to the highest tides in the world. It's also a great place for bird watching and whale watching. One of my favorite things about this province is that it has an east coast vibe that's different from my home province of Nova Scotia—it feels more laid back and less like a tourist destination. If you're interested in camping or hiking, New Brunswick has plenty of options for both. You'll want to go with a group so that you don't get lost or hurt yourself out there!

What should I bring? Bring some warm clothes because it gets pretty chilly at night! Also make sure you have bug spray on hand; bugs love me no matter where I am so I always carry some with me just in case they decide they want to come visit me during my trip :)

3. Alberta

Alberta is a province rich in natural beauty. It wants you to explore the wilderness, and it will reward you with breathtaking views if you do. There are many places for hiking in Alberta, but here are some of the best:

  • Banff National Park has plenty of trails that lead through jaw-dropping landscapes and areas where wildlife thrives. You can hike on your own or with tour guides who know the area well and can point out things like elk tracks or grizzly bear scat.

  • Jasper National Park offers dozens of hiking trails suitable for all levels of fitness—it was even named one of "the world's best" by National Geographic magazine! This park also has mountainscapes and glaciers where you'll see moose, black bears, eagles, mountain goats...and more!

4. Ontario

Ontario is a great place to go backpacking and camping. It's the most populous province in Canada, with almost one-tenth of the country's population residing there. Ontario has many national parks, including Algonquin Provincial Park, where you can hike along trails like the Iroquoia Trail or listen to nature around you while sitting by a campfire.

Ontario has great weather—it's warm enough in summer for people who enjoy swimming at a beach like Sandbanks Provincial Park, but cool enough in winter that people can still go skiing or skating outdoors when they want.

For those who want more adventure than just hiking through forests, there are plenty of opportunities for rock climbing at places like Devil's Glen Conservation Area where there are climbing routes that range from easy beginner routes all the way up to expert difficulty levels such as “The Wall” which requires careful planning before attempting it because it involves several tricky moves on topographic terrain (meaning uneven surfaces).

5. British Columbia

You can't explore the great outdoors without going to Canada, and BC is one of the best spots to do it. There are many diverse landscapes and activities available in BC: hike through its rainforest, see wildlife up close, climb mountains and go camping.

How to get there, what not to miss

  • How to get there: The best way to get to Glamping in the Colorado Rockies is by car, but if you're flying into Denver International Airport (DEN), you may want to consider taking a taxi or Uber. During peak season, the drive can take up to an hour and a half, depending on traffic conditions.

  • What not to miss: There are several activities that are must-dos while staying at one of our glamping cabins in the mountains! You'll have your pick between mountain biking, horseback riding and hiking throughout Rocky Mountain National Park as well as fishing for trout at Emerald Lake Resort & Spa.

  • Why this destination should be on your travel bucket list: With its natural beauty and abundance of outdoor activities available on site at The Lodge at Vail's location in Beaver Creek Valley, it's hard not fall in love with Colorado's most luxurious lakeside resort—especially if you've never experienced life outdoors like this before!

Conclusion

If you're looking for a way to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors, there are plenty of destinations across Canada where you can do just that. Whether you're looking for an adventure on land or sea, these five spots will inspire you to make the most out of your time in nature.
